Roll 13- Ambiguous Portraits

The assignment of this roll was to take ambiguous portraits of animals or people.

I was at a friend's house when I saw that their dog was up against the fence looking at the cows.  I then saw a cow walk over, and the animals sniffed eachother.  Luckily I had my camera so I took the shot.  I am very happy with this picture.

Roll 8- Hand Coloring

The assignment for this roll was to hand color black and white photographs.

WHen my sister was younger, she carved a watermelon out of wood, and then painted it.  I thought it might be cool if I take a photo of it, and hand color it.  I added brown to the red part of it to keep a slight wood look to it.

We keep fruit in our house all the time.  I decided to take an apple a put it on the railing outside.  I like that I used rule of thirds in this photograph.  I also was happy with only hand coloring certain branches as well as the subject.

Digital Roll 8- Blue Toning

Leading down to the lake in my neighborhood are these stairs.  I like that the edges of the stairs are leading lines.  The blue toning adds a somewhat cold and mysterious feel to the picture.

This is the lake in my neighborhood.  This tree is at a steep angle over the lake, so I decided to take a picture of it.  I like that the boat in the background doesn't interesect with the tree.

Roll 11- Carter's Mountain

The assignment for this roll was to take photographs at Carter's Mountain

On the mountain there is a broken and rusty truck.  I like this picture because not many people have seen the truck, so it is somewhat unique.

A bottle was resting on the stairs of the abandoned house at Carter's Mountain.  The light was coming in through a windownear the bottle.  I love the way the lighting is in this photographs.  It is one of my favorites of the year.

Roll 9- Spring Break

The assignment for this roll was to shoot pictures over spring break.

My sister visited Jamaica, and brought back these maracas.  They were sitting on her desk under a lamp.  I like the way the light reflects off of them.  Also, I like the contrast of this photograph, with the darks darker and the light lighter.

We occasionally have poker night with my family.  One night, before the chips were dealt out, I took a picture.  Again, I am happy with the contrast in this photograph.  If I could change one aspect, I wouldve tried to clean the negative more carefully.

Digital Roll 10- Studio Flash

I thought using color with the studio flash unit might look cool, so I looked around the room, and found colored pencils.  I am happy with how the photograph turned out because of the way the light reflects off the back of the pencils.

The second object I used were Maggie's glasses.    The light reflected off the lenses nicely.  In addition, I think I utilizes the rule of thirds fairly well.

Digital Roll 9- Split Toning

At the lake in my neighborhood, there are steps leading to the water.  I thought that with the blue and yellow tones in the picture, Split toning it would look nice.

These pods hang off a tree in my yard.  I like the angle which I took the picture.  Once again, with the blue and green tones, I thought split toning would look nice.

Digital Roll 7- Sepia Toning

This photograph was taken downtown.  I thought it would be a perfect picture to sepia tone because of the elderly man.  Also, downtown has a vintage type look, adding to the photo.

My back porch collects acorns that fall off our trees.  As I was walking by, I tried to utilize rule of thirds a bit.  I'm happy with how in focus the acorn is, while the rest of the picture is blurry.

Digital Roll 6 - Hand Coloring

While we were at Cale photographing a kindergarten class, I snapped this photo.  This kid stood out to me because of how vibrant his eyes were.  I decided it would be a nice picture to hand color digitally

In my yard, there is a bush full of these flowers.  They are very vivid in color so I figured they'd be perfect to hand color. I'm happy with how the photo turned out.

Digital Roll 4- Solarization

DOwn at my lake, there was a full spider web hanging from a branch.  I took the picture thinking it'd look cool normally.  I ended up seeing what it looked like solarized and was very pleased with the effect.  I also messed around with the contrast to make the spider web pop.
In the hallway, zoe was walking forward.  I got down on the ground to get a cool angle of her feet.  On this photo also, I took not expecting to solarize it, however I am pleased with how it turned out.

Roll 7- Solarization

The roll of this assignment was to develop the pictures different to give them a solarized effect.

My sister does triathalons, so her bike was parked on our porch.  Mr. Garland told us to try shooting some metal objects, so I figured why not.  I really like the metalic look of this picture.

In our house is a cabinet with all of our parents wedding glasses.  In the very center, one says bride, and one says groom.  I like how you can see the word groom on the one glass.

Roll 6- Cross Processing

I was down at a lake near monticello.  Next to the dock was a canoe, and in the background was the fountain.  I like the color the picture came back with.  My favorite part of this picture is the fountain in the background.

In a neighborhood, I was searching for interesting things to take pictures of.  At one house, a flag was waving in the back yard.  I took multiple pictures of the flag, but what I liked about this one was that the flag does not intersect the tree branches.  Also, I like that it look like dusk out when it was acutally in the morning.

Digital Roll 5- Cross Processing

I was down at the lake in my neighborhood taking pictures.  I like this picture because of the reflection of the trees and houses on the lake.  Also, altering the hue and saturation added a cool effect on the color of the water.

Also near the lake, were a bunch of leaving laying on the ground.  This leaf already had a naturally vibrant red/orange color so I altered the hue and saturation, which gave it an interesting look.

Digital Roll 3- Mimic Polaroid Transfers

Down at the lake in my neighborhood there is a boat with a hole in the back, sitting beside the water.  I like the shapes in this picture along with many different things going on while not intersecting.

Also down at the lake, two geese were swimming in the water.  I was able to get close enough with out them flying away, and was able to capture not only the geese but the ripples in the water.

Digital Roll 2- Mimic 3200 film

On the sidewalk outside of the building, there are many cracks.  I thought I created a nice angle with this one.  Also, the added noise to the picture created a nice effect.

Once again, at the school, we were tired of taking the same pictures, so I ventured off a ways.  Down a hill in the woods was a soda can.  The 3200 effect looked nice.

Digital Roll 1

We were wandering around the school, when we passed through the parking lot.  There was a core of an apple sitting on the ground.  The sun hitting the apple created a nice shadow, thus I took the picture.

In a "scavenger hunt" Mr. Garland told us to take a picture of a keyboard.  I thought by putting a bunch of car keys on a wooden board, I could accomplish that task creatively.

Roll 5-Downtown Roll

The assignment for this roll was to shoot downtown.

On our back porch, we have a plant sitting on the deck.  In the background is our backyard which consists of trees and plants.  I took out my camera and shot this picture which, I think, utilizes the rule of thirds well.

While we were walking downtown, there was a hotdog vender under the shade of his umbrella.  I like the shapes in this picture.

Roll 3-Layers

The assignment for this roll was to shoot layers.

It was Valentine's Day at our school, so people were going around serenading their classmates.  I walked in a classroom and saw these two guys singing, and thought the layers looked nice.

In my kitchen, my mom just finished cutting vegetables and the knife was resting on the cutting board.  I like how the counter in the forground does not intersect with the counter in the background.

Roll 2-3200 Film

The assignment for this roll was to shoot with 3200 film which gives the pictures a grainier look.

When I took my dog out for a walk, I brought my camera along.  She turned and faced me, which is when I snapped the picture.

We have a vase of flowers in front of the window looking into our backyard.  The lighting was cool, so I figured I'd take a picture.  I like the grainy effect from the 3200 film.

Roll 1-Choice

This roll was a choice roll.

I was shooting pictures at the school, which doesn't give me much to work with.  I went down by the turf and baseball fields, and this baseball was lying next to the fence. I thought the ball contrasted well with the rest of the photograph.

Still down at the fields, I came across a circle of trees with a rock in the middle.  I positioned my friend so that the trees framed her.
